Maestro Taj Mahal is a celebration of 40 years and the first American music Taj brand release in five years and his debut release on the Heads Up label. Maestro brings four decades of music, four decades of world fusion musical influences and washing, four decades of digging in the depths of melody and rhythm, and four decades of friendship, respect and cooperation. Staying true to his belief that music must be danceable, Maestro will sure you reeling from the University.
Maestro is like a twelve-act play tells the story of 40-year musical journey's Taj. The lead track is the cover of Scratch My Back, written by James Moore and made famous by Otis Redding. Taj, at an early age, was a member of the first band at a concert by Otis Redding and as Taj States on Otis, "I grabbed his fiery stage performance," and his cover of Scratch My Back This influence is heard by his commanding voice with the help of the Phantom Blues Band. The journey more of his time in Hawaii with Taj on ukulele with the help of family in the form of backing vocals by his daughter Deva Mahal as their co-written "Never Let You Go, with friends the band Los Lobos.
Long time friend Ben Harper joins Taj as they scratch out Ben's song Dust Me Down with support from a Who's Who of musicians (Jason Yates, Michael Jerome, Jason Mozersky, Jess Ingalls, CC White, Pebbles and Phillips). Taj's Further Down The Road Jack Johnson welcomed the vocals to complement Taj on vocals, harmonica, banjo and along the Phantom Blues Band. From the years 1970, Black M, Brown M written by Taj from its Caribbean, African, Latin, and reggae influences, and he is accompanied by Ziggy Marley and his band. Turn to another chapter of his life and music is the song that Taj Zanzibar African co-wrote with Angelique Kidjo and features the playing of Toumani Diabate kora, a 21-stringed harp from West Africa.
The spicy whiskey blues song Taj TV Mom reunited with Los Lobos, the track I Can Make You Happy replaced with gritty vocals Taj's roar: "I can make you happy, sad I can," with the support of the exceptional New Orleans Social Club. The song is a tribute to Hello Josephine Fats Domino and he is again supported by the New Orleans Social Club.
The release contains a few tracks Taj, Slow Drag an Appalachian backwoods song to the Taj on banjo, and strong man with deep soulful vocals Holler Taj's Blues. Maestro saves best for last with the coverage of Diddy Wah Diddy as Taj's vocals and harmonica along with the Phantom Blues Band on fire with this track roadhouse, and true to his faith, you must dance.
