Les Paul: The man who brought us The Guitarist Dream
The year 2009 brought us many losses in the world of music, but perhaps not hurt us as much as the loss of Les Paul, one of the founders of modern music, on August 12, 2009. Les Paul gave us the electric guitar as we know and technological progress that our signature the sound of rock music, even though the man himself was a country guitarist. His inventions changed the music world so much that Les Paul is one of the few people who will be honored with a permanent, stand alone show in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Les Paul story is an inspiration to musicians who strive to win in the music game. Born Lester Polsfuss, The young man took the stage name of Les Paul in the beginning of his musical career. He began by playing harmonica, banjo and then tried to play, but ultimately settled on the guitar. This instrument was his greatest love, but he stayed within the limits of the instrument pushing, looking for a unique sound. He uses pickups made from an old gramophone to a new life for the acoustic guitar and electric shock instrument reverb to keep for a much longer period.
In 1940 he brought the world its first solid body electric guitar, which he named "The Sign", a 4x4 "piece of wood with a bridge, guitar neck and pickups attached. It was not pretty enough for shows, the setup so he disguised in a traditional hollow body guitar.
From this humble beginning, the man on some of the most popular guitars in the world to create. The Gibson Les Paul guitars command high prices, with original drawing thousands of dollars for a Les Paul guitar, and are used by some of the most prominent names in rock history, including Eric Clapton.
To understand how much Les Paul loved music, there are two incidents in his life that really should be noted. The first was his 1940 electrocution while experimenting with designs for his electric guitar. It took the guy two years to recover from the incident, but he continued working on the guitar since he was a sound that could not be matched by all the acoustic instruments of the time wanted to offer.
The second incident reads almost like a love story, and in some sentence was. Les Paul was involved in a near fatal car accident that left his right arm and elbow in a ruined mess. The doctors told him they could fix the arm, but it would in a fixed position. Les Paul loved his guitar so much that he could not bear the thought of not able to play and asked the doctors to the arm set at an angle of almost 90 degrees so he could continue to play his beloved instrument. If you ever thought of giving up on your musical career, a look at this man's life can surely inspire you to keep of the course.
