Staying true to his belief that music is danceable, Maestro will surely have you rolling up the RUG.
Maestro is like a twelve-act play tells the story of the Taj's 40-year musical journey. The lead track is the cover of Scratch My Back, written by James Moore and made famous by Otis Redding. Taj, at an early age, was a member of the opening band at a concert and Otis Redding as Taj States Otis on, "his fiery stage performances grabbed me," and his cover of Scratch My Back these affects hearing by his commanding vocals with the help of the Phantom Blues Band. The journey continues from his time in Hawaii with the Taj on ukulele with the help of family in the form of backing vocals from his daughter Deva Mahal as they co-wrote Never Let You Go with friends from the band Los Lobos.
Long time friend Ben Harper joins Taj as they raze song Ben's Dust Me Down with the aid of a Who's Who of musicians (Jason Yates, Michael Jerome, Jason Mozersky, Jess Ingalls, CC White, Pebbles and Phillips). Taj's Further Down the Road Jack Johnson is pleased to Taj addition to singing vocals, harmonica, banjo, and together with the Phantom Blues Band. From the years 1970, Black M, Brown M written by Taj from his Caribbean, African, Latin, and reggae influences, and he is accompanied by Ziggy Marley and his band. Turning to another chapter of his life and music is the African Zanzibar track Taj co-wrote with Angelique Kidjo and has Toumani Diabate playing the kora, a 21-string harp from West Africa.
The spirited whiskey blues song Mama TV Taj reunited with Los Lobos, the track I Can Make You Happy replaced with Taj's gritty vocals belting out "I can make you happy, sad I can," with the support of the extraordinary New Orleans Social Club. The song is a tribute to Hello Josephine Fats Domino and he is again supported by the New Orleans Social Club.
The release includes a few tracks Taj, Slow Drag Backwoods an Appalachian song with Taj on banjo, and Strong Man Holler with deep soulful vocals Taj's blues. Maestro saves best for last with the cover of Diddy Wah Diddy as Taj vocals and harmonica, along with his Phantom Blues Band Road House fire on this track, and true to his faith, will you dance.

For example, a diatonic harmonica tuned to the key of C would produce the natural notes of the C scale without sharps and flats (picture the white keys on a piano, without the black keys). Each hole has two reeds; one plays when breath is exhaled (blow) and the other when inhaled (draw). The individual reeds are each tuned to play a different note on the scale. |
